WWE NXT (09/12/12) Report By: Sean Garmer
Location: Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida
Hosts: Jim Ross, Bryan Saxton, & William Regal
WWE: NOW, THEN, FOREVER
NXT INTRO
We begin with the gloomy darkness and wicked classical music of The Ascension making their way to the ring to start the show. Their opponents once again are The Usos, which means this should be a fun match-up here.
Match 1: The Ascension´s Kenneth Camerson vs. The Usos
Kenneth Cameron and Jey Uso run at each other and then begin a lock-up that is quickly turn into a standing switch and then a Back Side Slam by Kenneth Cameron. This makes total sense from last week because Cameron pinned Jey in their prevous encounter. Cameron gets up and looks at Jey for a bit, but now Jey Uso gets up and Back Side Slams Cameron to the mat. Jey Uso stares a hole in Cameron and both men get up and begin to SLUG IT OUT quite literally until Jey Uso pushes Cameron into the ropes and Jey gets knocked down from a Shoulder Block. Cameron goes to hit the ropes for the drop down, but instead, Jey Uso gets up and TOSSES CAMERON TO THE OUTSIDE!!! Cameron eventually slides back into the ring but he gets knocked down by a Clothesline from Jey Uso. Both men get up and Cameron goes down to the mat again thanks to a Back Body Drop from Jey Uso. Cameron goes to a corner to try and get a breather but Jey Uso is already lined up in the corner ready for the Butt Thump, but wait! Jey Uso charges but EATS a Big Boot from Kenneth Cameron.
Cameron keeps the punishment on Jey as he uses his knee against the ropes to sort of choke Jey Uso against it. Then as we see Cameron turn around, Connor O´ Brian punches Jey Uso off the ropes and causes him to stagger to his feet only to get knocked down by a BIG Right Hand from Kenneth Cameron, we have a 1 count cover, and then Cameron locks Jey Uso into the Body Scissors as we get chants of “O´ Brian sucks” ringing in a small part of the arena. The crowd starts getting into here chanting “Uso, Uso” and clapping to give Jey Uso the energy he needs to get out of the hold, which takes him about 45 seconds to do, by using a corner and then Snapmaring Cameron over his head to FINALLY break the hold. Both men get up and another hard right hand takes Jey Uso to the corner, but when Cameron charges he gets a NASTY European Uppercut from Jey Uso that can be heard throughout the arena. This almost knocks Cameron to the other side of the ring. Jey Uso charges, but Kenneth Cameron counters by HIP-TOSSING Jey Uso into the TURNBUCKLE!!! Cameron does this very cocky roll and stare and then pins Jey Uso, 1, 2, NOOOOOOOOOO! Jey Uso somehow got his shoulder up at 2 after that.
Cameron SLAMS Jey´s head into the mat several times and then proceeds to pummel him. Cameron gets up and goes for the subsequent Knee Drop but Jey Uso ROLLS OUT OF THE WAY!!! However, that excitement did not last for long as Cameron is able to push Jey Uso down again. A “Let´s go Uso, Uso Sucks” chant starts up, I guess John Cena is not the only that gets his own double chant. Cameron takes a while to go for a pin and gets a 1 count there. Kenneth Cameron Scoop Slams Jey Uso down and then he tries to follow that up with a Jumping Elbow but Jey Uso moves out of the way AGAIN!!!
Both men get up and Jey Uso hits a series of shots on Kenneth Cameron and then hits the ropes and NAILS Cameron with a SPINNING Elbow. Jey leads the fans in an USO chant as we see Cameron headed for a corner, which we know what that means. However, Connor O´ Brian has other plans and he pulls Jey Uso down by his leg before he can charge the diagonal corner. This might be just what Cameron needs to get back into this, Suplex by Cameron, but that only gets a quick 2 count. I´m guessing Jimmy Uso knocked down Connor O´ Brian off the apron while the pin was happening. Both men get up and Jey Uso pushes Cameron backwards to give him enough space to hit the ropes and NAIL Cameron with a Calf Kick into a cover, 1, 2, 3? Surprising move to end the match on but a much needed win for The Usos here.
Winner: Jey Uso (After Calf Kick)
Time & Rating: 5 minutes and 25 seconds, * and a ½ * (I thought this was good, the crowd being into the match certainly helped a lot as well. O´ Brian having a heel influence made the crowd root for Jey even more and considering these are two traditional tag team guys they had a nice single´s match here. This also provides The Usos with a much needed clean win to continue the feud.)
Backstage: WWE Hall of Famer & NXT Commissioner Dusty Rhodes is talking to someone and then someone who Dusty calls Rick comes into the picture. This NXT wrestler says that Dusty knows full well he could become the next NXT Champion if given the chance. Commish Dusty stops him and says “we do not give away title matches for free on NXT.” He has to go out and prove he should be a contender. Rick says Dusty should have no worries because he will prove himself. Dusty continues his previous conversation and we fade out to…
Big E. Langston approaching the stage in the NXT Arena. We see that his opponent Chad Baxter (jobber) is already in the ring awaiting to be pummeled into oblivion.
Match 2: Big E. Langston vs. Chad Baxter
Both men lock-up and Langston gives Baxter a Big Knee to take him down to the mat. Langston starts just beating down Baxter with some clubbing blows to the back. Langston picks up Baxter, but Baxter tries to fight back even by attempting to Sunset Flip Pin the big guy but to no avail. Langston just picks up Baxter by the throat and throws him into the corner and then DRIVES his shoulder into Baxter several times. Langston takes Baxter to a few corners and SLAMS Baxter´s head on the top turnbuckle pad, as a small “Let´s Go Baxter” chant rises up out of the crowd. Langston waits for Baxter to stagger out of the corner and gives Baxter a Triad of VICIOUS Back Breakers. Langston waits around and begins STALKING Baxter waiting for him to get up. Langston hits the ropes and knocks Baxter down with a Shoulder Block and DOWN COME THE STRAPS!!! Langston looks pissed as he has Baxter up for the CANADIAN SLAM 1, 2, 3!!! That´s all she wrote for this one.
Winner: Big E. Langston (After Finishing Move)
Time & Rating: 2 minutes, ½ * (A delayed squash for Mr. Langston, where he once again looks ferocious and like he could take on anyone.)
After the Match: Langston is not done, as he picks up Baxter again and delivers another CANADIAN SLAM to the guy. Then Langston goes for a pin and stays on him all the way to a 5 count. What a way to send a message indeed. Langston grabs a microphone and the crowd chants “One More Time” rather loudly here. Langston says “I am not normal!” So now all of his opponents will feel the pain and the AGONY of staying down for a 5 COUNT!!! Langston pounds his chest in celebration and he goes like he is leaving the ring. Langston quickly reverses that decision and the fans are happy to chant “One More Time!” CANADIAN SLAM once again and Langston stays on him to pound the mat for 1, 2, 3, 4, 5!!!
Backstage: Kassius Ohno is by himself in the lockeroom trying to speak to us with glasses on I guess being on philosophical.
Ohno says when he got to NXT he tried to tell everyone that he was a “very dangerous man.” Richie Steamboat got to find that out the hard way! The glasses come off! Since no one else on NXT seems to get it. Next week we are going to have the “first ever” Kassius Ohno “sparring session.” Ohno leaves with this line “if you do not know how dangerous I am now? You will no then!” Ohno SLAMS his hand against the camera and leaves. We go to commercial.
I don´t know if this was a commercial or a promo, but right after the Ohno promo we go to a vignette of several superstars including: Zack Ryder, Tyson Kidd, WWE Tag Champion R-Truth, Mr. Money in the Bank Dolph Ziggler, Jerry Lawler, WWE Tag Champion Kofi Kingston, Yoshi Tatsu, Vickie Guerrero, and Johnny Curtis looking for Trent? Of course they are referring to Trent Barreta. Apparently the guy has been found after six months of being missing and lost. At the end of the video he is asked if he wants to wrestle next week on NXT and he says Yes.
Back from break, we are introduced to Garrett Dylan for the first time on NXT from Full Sail University. Apparently this guy survived on Pig´s Feet and Protein Shakes growing up. We are then introduced to his opponent “The Intellectual Savior of the Masses” Damien Sandow to a rather large response from the crowd.
Sandow has a microphone and wants to beg our indulgence for a moment. Sandow says he is here on NXT to further his crusade towards the fan´s Enlightenment. Sandow says he was scheduled to compete here tonight but instead he wants to give Garrett Dylan a chance to listen to a lecture he has prepared for all of us. The crowd is apparently very excited to hear this lecture (LOL.) Sandow hopes for everyone´s sake and for the well being of Garrett Dylan he chooses the better option. Of course, we are welcome as well. Dylan chooses to wrestle instead and I guess here we go.
Match 3: Damien Sandow vs. Garrett Dylan
Sandow and Dylan lock-up and it is taken straight to the corner where Sandow UNLOADS on Dylan with rights and lefts and a foot choke as well. Sandow celebrates and the crowd obliges, as Sandow quickly Snapmares Dylan down and then hits the ropes for a NICELY delivered Knee Drop but the count gets nothing, much to the dismay of Sandow. Sandow gets up and gives Dylan a HARD whip into the ropes and then punches Dylan down. We go into a corner again where Sandow drives his shoulder into Dylan a few times and then watches him stagger to the mat. Sandow tries to pick up Dylan, but Dylan counters with some punches and then hits the ropes. Dylan ducks under the a Clothesline from Sandow and Shoulder Blocks Sandow down. Dylan hits the ropes again and knocks Sandow down with a BIG Clothesline and goes for a cover, 1, 2, NOOOOOOOOOOO!!! Sandow gets the shoulder up at 2.
Before both men get up to their feet and Sandow Headbutts Dylan in the chest to provide a nice distraction so he can get up and Russian Leg Sweep Dylan down. This is quickly followed up the Elbow of Disdain from Sandow. Sandow picks up Dylan and gives him a few Knees and then we get the CHICKEN WING NECKBREAKER along with some “Lanny Poffo” chants directed at Sandow. Oh yeah, there is the 1, 2, 3!!!
Winner: Damien Sandow (After Chicken Wing Neckbreaker)
Time & Rating: 2 minutes and 30 seconds, ½ * (A squash for Sandow but the important part was cutting the promo and letting the fans see his work first hand. To me, this is much more impactful than Brodus Clay or Antonio Cesaro because he got to show his character and the crowd actually interacted with him.)
Backstage: Riley Pearce has interview with the first ever NXT Champion Seth Rollins. Riley Pearce tell us that the main event for tonight is going to be Tyson Kidd vs. Michael McGillicutty and wants to know how Seth Rollins feels about having to face one of these men for the title. Seth Rollins says it does not matter where, when, or who it is he will fight them but he is interrupted by… Rick Victor who says it is easy to say that when you are not talking about facing him. Victor then asks Rollins if he knows his name, Rollins says he does not know his name, which is answered by Victor with a SLAP!!! To Seth Rollins. Rollins is furious and says he knows who Rick Victor is and he “just jumped to the top of his list.”
RAW Rebound about Punk & Cena aired for about 3 minutes and 30 seconds we go…
Backstage: Commissioner Dusty Rhodes is reading a book or something and storming into the room comes NXT Champion Seth Rollins. Seth Rollins wants a match next week against Rick Victor for SLAPPING him in the face earlier. Commish Rhodes asks for Rollins to calm down there is no need for threats. Next week Rollins will have his match and Rhodes shakes his head in agreement with what just happened. We go to commercial.
Match 4: Tyson Kidd vs. Michael McGillicutty
Both men lock-up, there is a loud “Let´s go Tyson” chant happening while this is happening, McGillicutty goes into a Standing Switch and Kidd tries to keep his opponent from gaining an upperhand and eventually they break it and we restart here. Both men lock-up again and Tyson Kidd switches it to a Side Headlock and into a Headlock Takedown. Tyson Kidd keeps the headlock in while both men are on the mat for about 10 seconds before McGillicutty counters with a Headscissors to break the hold. Kidd spins out and wraps the legs of McGillicutty and then jumps up and puts him into an Armbar rather quickly. McGillicutty doesn´t like what happened and goes out to the ring apron. Both men lock-up again and McGillicutty puts Kidd into an Arm Ringer, but Kidd is smart enough to guide McGillicutty towards the ropes where he uses them to flip out of the hold and Back Body Drop McGillicutty over eventually into a Key Lock. However, McGillicutty uses his legs to grab the ropes before any damage can be done.
The referee breaks the hold and both men are back up to their feet and McGillicutty gets Kidd down with a Headlock Takedown once again. Somehow Kidd slithers out of the hold and kips up to his feet and then Dropkicks McGillicutty down. A Tyson chant begins, as McGillicutty goes to the outside again for a breather, much to the dismay of the fans. “Let´s Go Tyson” chant rings rather loud in the arena as McGillicutty takes a lock-up and then knocks down Tyson Kidd. We go to commercial.
We are back to the action with McGillicutty just punching away at Tyson Kidd. McGillicutty puts Kidd into a resthold for about a good 20 seconds before Kidd is able to Arm Drag his way out of the move. Both men get up and Tyson Kidd goes for a Sunset Flip Pin!!! 1, 2, NOOOOOOOOOOO!!! McGillicutty kicks out, he gets up, and Clotheslines Kidd down from behind, eventually McGillicutty goes for a pin but only gets a 1 count out of the exchange. McGillicutty SMASHES his arm against the face of Kidd for a little bit before we go to a corner and McGillicutty keeps Kidd down. Both men are up and McGillicutty whips Tyson Kidd HARD into the diagonal turnbuckle and goes for a cover, 1, 2, NOOOOOOOOO!!! Tyson Kidd is just able to get the shoulder up there.
McGillicutty takes a bit to get back on the offense but Kidd winds up on the ring apron and McGillicutty attempts to Suplex Kidd back into the ring, but Kidd blocks it and then NAILS McGillicutty with an Enziguri Kick to the face. McGillicutty turns around and receives a bunch of kicks from Tyson Kidd including a Wheel Kick right to the face. Tyson Kidd gets back up and kicks McGillicutty in the abdomen and then hits the ropes and with a low dropkick takes McGillicutty down to the mat. We go into a cover, 1, 2, NOOOOOOOOOO!!! McGillicutty just gets his shoulder up at 2. Kidd attempts a move but McGillicutty goes to the outside once again and this time Kidd is ready for it as he Baseball Slides McGillicutty in the face. Then he gets onto the ring apron and then kicks McGillicutty in the sternum. Kidd rolls McGillicutty back into the ring and then goes for a Springboard Elbow but he winds up Elbowing McGillicutty´s knees instead.
Kidd is in a lot of pain here, as both men get up and PERFECT PLEX by McGillicutty, 1, 2, NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! Tyson Kidd gets his shoulder up and McGillicutty CANNOT BELIEVE IT!!!! McGillicutty is out on the ring apron gasping for air as he might have given all he had there. However, he makes one last effort to go up to the top rope, but out of nowhere Kidd CROTCHES him on the top turnbuckle. Kidd climbs the turnbuckle and… FRANKENSTEINER by Tyson Kidd we go into a cover, 1, 2, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! My goodness HOW DID HE GET THE SHOULDER UP!!! The crowd is trying to will Kidd on here, as he goes to pick up his opponent but McGillicutty countered with a Jawbreaker. Kidd turns around clutching his mouth and McGillicutty tries a Back Suplex but Kidd flips out of it and immediately goes for an Enziguri Kick but McGillicutty ducks out of the way. McGillicutty gets up first and RUNNING NECKBREAKER!!! Quickly into the cover he goes, 1, 2, 3!!!! Wow what a big win for McGillicutty here.
Winner: Michael McGillicutty (After Running Neckbreaker)
Time & Rating: 10 minutes and 30 seconds, *** (Fantastic match from both guys here, You can really tell they have some great chemistry and it showed in this match. They had some nice chain wrestling to start, mixed in some submissions, some high impact stuff, and then had a wonderful finish with both guys kicking out of some big moves. The announcers made this a big deal like it was an unannounced No. 1 Contender´s Match and they made it feel like it was.)
After the Match: Michael McGillicutty celebrates and walks out of the ring standing tall on the ramp as we go off-the-air.
FINAL RATING: 9.0
This was a very well balanced show that did a lot of things to continue storylines, gave us a nice surprise with Damien Sandow, and delivered on a very good main event as well. I wish we would have heard a little bit on Richie Steamboat´s condition just continue the storyline because it seems from Ohno´s promo it is still going on but possibly indirectly. I loved that The Usos got a single´s match and won as well. I already talked about how much I enjoyed the main event and Sandow showing up too. The crowd was crazy on this show and the liveliest I have ever seen on NXT so far. Just glad they found a way to use Dusty well and give Seth Rollins his first confrontation as champion too. They even found a way to give Big E Langston some character on this show and the fans were major into him. So it looks like things are looking up and going good for NXT. I am excited to see what happens next week already.
